If you are connected to the Internet (i.e. You can use a web browser such as Netscape), you can hook up to an Internet Othello Server (IOS) and play Reversi ΓÇó The Eclipse against opponents all around the world, right from your own computer.
To connect to the IOS, choose the "Log on IOS" item from the Internet menu. If the menu item is disabled, you will need to install OpenTransport, version 1.1 or later. (Apple System 7.6 or later has this networking capability.)
Enter a user name with up to eight characters into the Login Name field. If you don't get a connection on your first try, it may be because you've chosen a user name that's already being used by someone else. (It happens!) Try connecting again with a new name.
Okay, I'm Connected. Now what?
After you have successfully connected to the IOS, the "Player / Command Window" will open. The left side of this window contains a list of players currently "logged on" and also indicates which players are involved in a game. The right side of the window is a "command" box that lets you interact directly with the text-based IOS (see Advanced Internet Play).
ΓÇó To display information about another player, double-click on that player's name.
ΓÇó To set up a game and invite another player, click on that player's name, then click on the "Match" button.
ΓÇó To watch a game being played, click on the name of the player you want to watch, then click on the "Observe" button.
ΓÇó To chat with another player, click on that player's name, then click on the "Talk To" button. A chat window will appear; you type in the bottom half.
